International Poster Exhibition “Fabric of Family” Launches in Diwaniyah, Iraq

Diwaniyah, Iraq – For the first time in Diwaniyah Governorate, the international poster exhibition “Fabric of Family: Stories of Disconnection and Connection” has opened to the public. Organized under the auspices of the Iraqi Artists’ Syndicate – Diwaniyah Branch and supported by renowned international design associations including Worldwide Graphic Designers (WGD), Graphic Stories, RINC, ASEDAS, and LikeforPoster, the exhibition brings global attention to the complexities of family through the lens of graphic design.

The event was initiated by Abulqasim Najah, a young Iraqi designer, in collaboration with his mentors at the University of Baghdad’s College of Fine Arts – Dr. Raqee Najmuldeen and Dr. Mutaz Ismail. Together, they curated a collection that delves into the emotional and cultural fabric of family, a theme rarely explored in international poster design.

A Global Dialogue on Family
Featuring works by 225 designers from 35 countries, the exhibition showcases a rich spectrum of artistic interpretations. Some posters celebrate unity and love, while others critique traditional structures or depict the pain of separation. Artists used various visual languages—illustration, metaphor, minimalism, photography, and typography—to create a thought-provoking and visually compelling experience.

Bridging Art and Society
“Fabric of Family” challenges conventional approaches to art and design, offering a profound reflection on human relationships. It goes beyond aesthetic appeal, serving as a platform for cultural exchange and social commentary.

Dr. Raqee Najmuldeen, the exhibition’s concept creator and lead curator, expressed his hope that the show’s message would resonate broadly: “This exhibition is about shared experiences and emotions that transcend borders. Family, in all its forms, connects us all.”

As the first exhibition of its kind in Diwaniyah, this event marks a significant cultural milestone, linking local artistic voices with the global creative community.

The exhibition is open to the public, inviting all to engage with the emotional narratives that shape family life around the world.
