Sections of the Journal

CooterMag Quarterly Journal is structured around a set of clearly defined sections that reflect its hybrid scholarly and cultural orientation. Each section serves a distinct editorial purpose and follows specific evaluation criteria.

Research Articles
This section publishes original scholarly research in the fields of literature, art, and related cultural studies. Articles submitted to this section undergo a double-blind peer review process and are evaluated according to academic standards of originality, methodological rigor, and critical contribution.

Research articles are expected to include an abstract, keywords, and full academic references and to follow APA citation style.

Critical Essays & Theoretical Reflections
This section features analytically driven essays that engage critically with literary, artistic, or cultural questions. Contributions may adopt experimental, reflective, or interdisciplinary approaches and are reviewed by the editorial team for conceptual clarity and critical depth.

Reviews
The Reviews section includes critical assessments of recent books, exhibitions, performances, films, and other relevant cultural productions. Reviews aim to situate the work under discussion within broader scholarly or artistic contexts rather than offering purely descriptive summaries.

Interviews & Conversations
This section presents interviews and dialogic pieces with writers, artists, scholars, curators, and cultural practitioners. Contributions are selected and edited by the editorial team and focus on critical reflection, practice-based insight, and contemporary debates in literature and the arts.

Creative & Artistic Works
The journal also publishes selected creative and artistic contributions, including short fiction, poetry, visual projects, and experimental works. These contributions are curated editorially and reflect the journal’s commitment to fostering dialogue between critical inquiry and artistic practice.

All submissions are subject to editorial review. However, only contributions published in the Research Articles section are formally peer-reviewed. The journal maintains a clear distinction between scholarly research content and other editorial or creative materials.

Peer Review Process

CooterMag Quarterly Journal is committed to maintaining high scholarly standards and editorial integrity. To ensure the quality and academic rigor of its published research, the journal applies a formal peer-review process to all submissions classified as Research Articles.

Review Model
Research articles undergo a double-blind peer review process. In this model, the identities of both authors and reviewers are concealed throughout the review process to ensure impartial evaluation and to prevent conflicts of interest.

Initial Editorial Screening
Upon submission, each research article is first reviewed by the editorial team to assess its relevance to the journal’s scope, originality, and overall scholarly suitability. Articles that do not meet the journal’s basic criteria may be declined at this stage.

External Peer Review
Manuscripts that pass the initial screening are sent to external reviewers with relevant academic expertise. Reviewers evaluate submissions based on established scholarly criteria, including:

  • Originality and contribution to the field
  • Methodological and theoretical rigor
  • Clarity of argumentation and structure
  • Engagement with relevant literature

Editorial Decision
Based on the reviewers’ reports, the editorial team makes one of the following decisions:

  • Acceptance without revision
  • Acceptance subject to minor or major revisions
  • Invitation to revise and resubmit
  • Rejection

The final decision regarding publication rests with the editorial leadership of the journal.

Confidentiality and Ethics
The identities of reviewers are not disclosed. All manuscripts are treated as confidential documents throughout the review process. The journal adheres to recognized ethical standards in academic publishing and expects reviewers and authors alike to uphold principles of academic integrity.

Non–Peer-Reviewed Content
