The Northern Festival of Illustration returns with an exciting global challenge themed “Stories of Home”. Artists from around the world are encouraged to interpret what “home” means to them—be it a specific place, a cherished memory, a personal connection, or a feeling of belonging. This open call invites you to share your own story through illustration or animation, celebrating the diverse and emotional meanings behind the idea of home.
Selected entries will be exhibited at The Northern School of Art as part of the 2025 festival in Hartlepool, UK. Ten finalists per category will be showcased in this major celebration of creativity and narrative art.

Prize Categories include:
- Emerging Animator (Supported by Aardman Animation):
£500 prize, film screening at the Vue cinema during the festival, plus a 6-week online short course with Aardman Academy. - Emerging Illustrator:
£500 prize - Established Illustrator:
£1,000 prize
Winners in illustration categories will also receive additional support, such as mentorship or a free online portfolio platform.
This opportunity is open to creatives at all levels—amateur or professional—and welcomes participants from all over the world.
The festival itself will run from 12 September to 1 November 2025, activating cultural venues across Hartlepool and celebrating the power of illustration to tell meaningful stories.
