Eva Helene Pade: Søgelys Exhibition

Eva Helene Pade presents Søgelys at Ely House in London. The exhibition runs until 23 December 2025. It follows her recent show at ARKEN Museum of Contemporary Art in Denmark, though this chapter feels more intimate and physical. Pade focuses on crowded scenes, shifting light and thick clouds of smoke. She paints bodies that twist, fall and rise together, and she uses these movements to talk about memory, fear and desire.

Large canvases fill the main space. Smaller works sit between them like close-up shots, however they keep the same strong energy. Pade hangs the paintings on tall metal posts instead of flat walls. Visitors walk around these structures, and the route feels like slow choreography. You turn, stop and step closer, while the figures in the works seem to echo each move.

“Midt fald” (2025), oil on canvas, 240 × 210 cm.

Her images mix everyday gestures with hints of myth. A group of dancers can suddenly suggest a ritual, though nothing in the scene fixes one single story. Colours slide from deep shadow to sharp beams of yellow and red. Smoke softens the edges of the bodies and muddies the space, so each scene hovers between clarity and confusion.

Søgelys offers a dense but readable picture of how groups form, break and reform. It invites viewers to feel the push and pull between danger and care, even when the action stays just out of reach.
