Submissions are now open for the Sony Future Filmmaker Awards 2026, a major international platform dedicated to discovering and empowering the next wave of creative voices in cinema.
Now entering its fourth year, the program continues to redefine how emerging filmmakers connect with the industry—offering not just recognition, but an extraordinary career-making experience.
Thirty shortlisted filmmakers from around the world will be invited to Sony Pictures Studios in Culver City, California, where they’ll take part in an immersive program of workshops, masterclasses, and networking sessions led by leading professionals from Sony Pictures. The experience culminates in an awards ceremony celebrating outstanding new talent across the global short film landscape.
Creators can submit their short films to one of four categories:
- Fiction – 5–20 minutes, focused on original narrative storytelling or dramatized factual subjects.
- Non-Fiction – 5–20 minutes, centered on factual storytelling, including documentaries, archival pieces, or animation.
- Animation – 2–20 minutes, with at least 75% animated content.
- Student – 5–20 minutes, open to any genre, reserved for those currently enrolled in film schools or equivalent programs.
All entries are free to submit and will be reviewed by a panel of industry leaders and creative experts.
