Copperfield Gallery, London | 29 May – 2 August 2025
Opening Wednesday 28 May 6-8:30 pm
Copperfield Gallery proudly announces To Desir, Mo Lamor, the second solo exhibition by acclaimed Mauritian-born artist Shiraz Bayjoo, opening on 28 May 2025, from 6:00 to 8:30 pm, and running through 2 August. This powerful new body of work continues Bayjoo’s exploration of colonial histories and their lasting cultural, environmental, and emotional impacts, particularly within the Indian Ocean region.

The exhibition brings together a compelling blend of sculpture, painting, video, and installation that addresses themes of displacement, cultural memory, and ecological loss. Through these interwoven media, Bayjoo reflects on how colonialism not only reshaped the political landscape of the Indian Ocean archipelagos but also continues to affect the environment and the identities of the people inhabiting these spaces.
To Desir, Mo Lamor—which translates from Mauritian Creole as “Your Desire, My Love”—acts as a poetic meditation on belonging, migration, and resistance. Bayjoo draws on archival research, oral histories, and indigenous knowledge to create works that function both as a memorial and an inquiry. His practice invites viewers to contemplate the layered histories that define post-colonial societies, while offering moments of beauty, care, and cultural reclamation.
This exhibition deepens Bayjoo’s ongoing commitment to foregrounding overlooked narratives and to imagining alternative futures shaped by memory, resilience, and interconnectedness.
