Thaddaeus Ropac Seoul is set to host the first solo exhibition of acclaimed Korean artist Lee Kang So, titled Dwelling in Mist and Glow, opening on Friday, June 13, 2025, and running through August 2, 2025, at its Fort Hill location. The exhibition follows Lee’s major retrospective at the National Museum of Modern and Contemporary Art, Korea (MMCA) in 2024, and spans more than fifty years of his groundbreaking work.
The exhibition draws inspiration from a poem by 16th-century Confucian scholar Yi Hwang, reflecting Lee’s long-standing dialogue with nature and philosophical thought. The selected works—ranging from painting and printmaking to sculpture and installation—highlight Lee’s intuitive and deeply experimental approach to contemporary art.
Known for his innovative practice since the 1970s, Lee Kang So (b. 1943, Daegu) has played a pivotal role in shaping modern Korean art. His early performances and conceptual installations, including a notable piece at the 9th Paris Biennale in 1975, have earned him international recognition. Through his art, Lee explores themes of impermanence, presence, and the shared energy between artist, material, and viewer.
In his own words: “Whether in painting or sculpture, I wish for all works to form a structure where some pure energy in myself and that in the onlooker can mutually interact.”
Dwelling in Mist and Glow invites visitors to experience a contemplative and immersive journey through Lee’s ever-evolving artistic vision.
