Science Without Borders Challenge 2026

The Khaled bin Sultan Living Oceans Foundation has launched the 14th annual Science Without Borders Challenge, inviting young artists worldwide to explore the unseen world beneath the waves.

This year’s theme, “Microscopic Marine Life,” celebrates the ocean’s smallest yet most powerful inhabitants. These organisms—phytoplankton, zooplankton, bacteria, and protists—sustain marine food webs, produce oxygen, recycle nutrients, and help regulate the planet’s climate.

The contest is open to students aged 11 to 19, offering scholarships of up to $500 for winning entries. Participants are asked to create artwork that shows how microscopic organisms support marine life and the planet’s health.

Entries will be judged in two age groups:
• 11–14 years old
• 15–19 years old

Prizes include:

  • 1st Place: $500
  • 2nd Place: $350
  • 3rd Place: $200
  • People’s Choice Award: $50

The Challenge, which runs until March 2, 2026, is free to enter. Each year, it connects art and science, encouraging students to use creativity as a tool for ocean conservation.
